The Pre-historic Games

Welcome to the first ‘modern’ Pre-Historic Games held in Wrightwood, California.

For countless thousands of years our ancient ancestors gathered around seasonal surplus resources to share food, perform rituals, experiment with social structures, and of course, healthy competition. These seasonal festivals allowed many cultures and families to come together and trade knowledge while resources were plentiful before returning to their small bands. This sharing of resources and knowledge revolved around healthy competition and games as each band of people had specialized skills. As we progressed into agriculture more seriously to sustain larger groups of individuals the games eventually became structured by ancient Greece in 776 B.C. in Olympia. In the early days of the Olympics, the games were built off of warrior skills like running, boxing, wrestling, chariot racing, etc. However, these more ancient festival games that happened around surplus resources must have been built around hunter and gathering skills. Thus, we believe we are bringing back the original origins of the festival games that eventually became the Olympics.
